Mahatma Gandhi lookalikes set new world record

In a tribute to the world famous political and ideological leader of India,
pupils from a school in Calcutta, India, have set a new world record after nearly 500 of them dressed as the political icon.

To mark his death 64 years ago, children, aged from 10 -16, donned wigs, fake moustaches and the former leader’s trademark round spectacles as they set their new world record, and went on a march through central Kolkata, West Bengal. 

Watching from the sidelines was Gandhi’s granddaughter Usha Gokani. 'It's a great feeling,' she said. ‘I am moved by the passion for the father of the nation displayed by these children.'

This latest record broke the previous one set in 2010 when 255 pupils dressed up as Gandhi in Coimbatore, southern India.

Inspiration was taken from Gandhi's famed 1930 peace march which led to the wider Indian independence movement against British East India Company rule. 

 

 

I know it's not a fantastic story, but I thought it looked pretty funny!
